Parhelia usually appear on both sides of the sun under certain conditions. Sometimes one is brighter than the other, and it can confuse you as to which is the real sun in some cases. Having three blinding suns in your eyes can make fo some rough flying.
Don’t feel bad about the misidentification. Keep watching & sending reports. It’s all interesting.

Sun-dogs seem to be as likely an answer as anything because its hard to make out exactly what besides the glare is there. Its also impossible to make out “contrails”.
