Scientologists Bring Faith Healing to Haiti

Amid the mass of aid agencies piling in to help Haiti quake victims is a batch of Church of Scientology “volunteer ministers”, claiming to use the power of touch to reconnect nervous systems.
Clad in yellow T-shirts emblazoned with the logo of the controversial US-based group, smiling volunteers fan out among the injured lying under makeshift shelters in the courtyard of Port-au-Prince’s General Hospital.
A wealthy private donor provided his airplane to fly in 80 volunteers from Los Angeles, along with 50 Haitian-American-doctors, in a gesture worth 400,000 dollars, said a Parisian volunteer who gave her name as Sylvie.
“We’re trained as volunteer ministers, we use a process called ‘assist’ to follow the nervous system to reconnect the main points, to bring back communication,” she said.
“When you get a sudden shock to a part of your body the energy gets stuck, so we re-establish communication within the body by touching people through their clothes, and asking people to feel the touch.”
Next to her lay 22-year-old student Oscar Elweels, whose father rescued him from the basement of his school where he lay with a pillar on his leg for a day after the deadly January 12 quake.
His right leg was amputated below the knee and his left leg was severely bruised and swollen.
More than half of his fellow students died in the rubble of his school, although the rest of his family was unscathed, he said, thanking God.
“One hour ago he had no sensation in his left leg, so I explained the method to him, I touched him and after a while he said ‘now I feel everything’,” said Sylvie.
“Otherwise they might have had to amputate his other leg. Now his sister knows the method and she can do it.”
Asked about the method being used on him, a smiling Elweels described it as “a sort of harmony between the nerves, a kind of exercise. I couldn’t feel at all, but then I could.”
Does he know Scientology? “Yes, it’s a French organization,” he said.
“All the patients are happy with the technique,” said Sylvie. “But some doctors don’t like the yellow T-shirts. It’s a color thing,” she insisted.
Another group of Scientologists distributed antibiotic pills. “The doctors said give everyone with wounds antibiotics,” said Italian volunteer Marina.
Some doctors at the hospital are skeptical. One US doctor, who asked not to be named, snorted: “I didn’t know touching could heal gangrene.”
When asked what the Scientologists are doing here, another doctor said: “I don’t know.”
Do you care? “Not really,” she said, wheeling an unconscious patient out of the operating room to join hundreds of others in the hospital’s sunny courtyard.
Returning from the Dead ?
History contains any number of stories of those, thought to be dead, who returned to the world of the living.
A story, which appeared in 1892, tells of a shopkeeper of the Rue St. Honore, at Paris, who had promised his daughter to one of his friends, a shopkeeper like himself, residing also in the same street.
One day, a rich gentleman came into the shop, and was so taken with the girl’s beauty, he returned later and asked her fathers permission to marry the girl.
The mans request was accepted, and the girl was engaged to the rich gentlemen instead of the young man to whom she had first been promised.
Soon after the marriage, the young bride fell ill, and shortly thereafter proclaimed as dead. The next day she was enshrouded and interred.
The first lover having an idea that she had fallen into a lethargy or a trance, took her out of the ground that night, and was able to revive her.
The young shopkeeper and the girl married, crossed the channel, and lived quietly in England for some years.
At the end of ten years, they returned to Paris, where the first husband saw her on the street on day and recognized her as his deceased wife.
The first husband claimed her in a court of justice; and this was the subject of a great law suit.
The wife and her second husband defended themselves on the ground that death had broken the bonds of the first marriage.
The first husband was even accused of having caused his wife to be too prematurely interred.
Before the case had been decided, the wife and the second husband, unsettled by the notoriety of the trial, again left France for England, where they ended their days together.

Plutarch (46 – 120 CE) recounted the story of a man who fell from a great height, and landing on his neck, and although there was no appearance of injuries, was believed to be dead. The next day, as this man was being carried to be buried, he suddenly recovered his strength and his senses.

An account, written by a physician in 1896, tells of being on the same train transporting the body of a person being taking to be interred.
He asked for permission to look at and to touch the dead man, and was astonished to find signs of life in the “corpse.”
The body was removed from the train and taken to the psysicians home, where it was given medical attention and nourishment.
After several days the once-deceased man was restored to sound health.
The man, who had once been on his way to the graveyard, later returned to his parents and relations.

There are several instances of persons, who after being interred, were found to be alive, and lived a long time afterward.

One such item relates how a woman of Orleans was buried in a cemetery, with a ring on her finger, which could not be removed when she was placed in her coffin.
The following night, one of the womans servants, attempting to steal the ring, broke open the coffin.
He too found that the ring could not be removed from the womans finger, and was about to cut her finger off, when she uttered a loud shriek. The servant fled in terror.
The woman was able to unwrap herself from her winding sheet, returned home, and outlived her husband.

In the personal recollections of M. Bernard, a principal surgeon of Paris, he tells of being with his father at the parish of Real when they took from the tombs, living and breathing, a monk of the order of St. Francis, who had been interred for “three or four days.” The unfortunate man had “gnawed his hands around the bands which confined them” and died almost the moment that he was in the air.

There is an account of the wife of a counselor of Cologne, who was interred with a valuable ring on her finger, in 1571.
A grave-digger opened the grave the succeeding night to steal the ring, whereupon the good lady took hold of him, and forced him to take her out of the coffin.
The grave-digger was able to disengage himself from her hands, and fled.
The resuscitated lady went and rapped at the door of her house.
At first her family was frightened, thinking she was a phantom, and left her a long time at the door, waiting anxiously to be let in.
At last they admitted her into the house, warmed her, and she recovered her health perfectly.
She later gave birth to three sons.
After she eventually passed away, the story of her previous encounter with death was engraved on her tomb.

Francois de Civile, a Norman gentleman, was the captain of a hundred men in the city of Rouen, when it was besieged by Charles IX.
At the age of twenty-six Civile was severely wounded in battle, his body falling into the moat. His body was placed in a trench, along with others, and a thin covering of earth was throw on top of the mass grave.
He remained there from eleven in the morning till half-past six in the evening, when his servant, having dug a proper grave for his master, went to disinter him.
The servant observed signs of life in his masters supposedly dead body.
Civile was taken and put in a bed, where he remained for five days and nights, without speaking, or giving any other sign of feeling. During this time Civile was burning hot with fever as he had been cold in the grave.
The city having been captured, the servants of an officer of the victorious army was to lodge in the house where Civile lay.
Civile was put on a paillasse in a back room. His enemies later tossed him out a window and onto a dungheap, where he remained for more than seventy-two hours, clad only in his shirt.
At the end of that time, one of his relations, surprised to find him still alive, sent him to a relatives house, a league’s distance from Rouen, where he was attended to, and at last recovered.

During a great plague, which attacked the city of Dijon in 1558, a lady, named Nicole Lentillet, being reputed dead of the epidemic, was thrown into a great pit, wherein they buried the dead.
The day after her interment, in the morning, she came to herself again, and made vain efforts to get out, but her weakness, and the weight of the other bodies with which she was covered, prevented her doing so.
She remained in this horrible situation for four days, when the burial men drew her out, and carried her back to her house, where she perfectly recovered her health.

A young lady of Augsburg, having fallen into a trance, her body was placed under a deep vault, without being covered with earth; but the entrance to this subterranean vault was closely walled up.
Some years after that time, some one of the same family died.
The vault was opened, and the body of the young lady was found at the very entrance, without any fingers to her right hand, which she had devoured in despair.

On the 28th of the same month, strange moaning sounds were heard to come from the place where he was buried.
They opened the boys grave, and he was attended by doctors and surgeons.
The physician maintained, after he had been opened, that the young man had not been dead two hours.

On The Track Of Monsters Unseen
Seeking encounters with un-discovered creatures.
Salt Lake City, Utah – John Warms is on a monstrous quest for strange creatures seldom seen.
The 65-year-old researcher from Manitoba, Canada, visited Utah recently, hoping to hear firsthand tales of legendary beasts.
A retired public school teacher, Warms is working to publish a new book on strange creatures.
“I’m certain they exist,” based on many expeditions and interviews, Warms said.
Warms is one of many proponents of such creatures but one of few to take a special interest in purported creatures that may reside in the Beehive State.
Last week, Warms drove to Utah in search of its alleged water creatures, like the Bear Lake Monster and other strange beasts allegedly spotted in the Great Salt Lake in the 19th century.
Depending on what he finds, he hopes to write a book and enhance his Web Site, which he hopes will break new ground with previously untold stories about sightings of strange creatures.
Warms isn’t well known in the monster quest field just yet, but depending on what he finds in Utah and other places, that could change.
Living with Canada’s Fairford River in his backyard, he’s heard many tales of strange creatures – from the traditional serpents to giant prehistoric beavers.
These gigantic beavers are his favorite focus.
Though believed to be extinct for over 10,000 years, these are scientifically named castorides Ohioensis and can grow to up to 9 feet tall and weigh 440 pounds.
He stresses that the fact that these giant beavers actually existed makes some of his claims much more plausible.
“I have encountered people in northern Manitoba and along the Alaska Highway who claim to have seen the bear-sized creature,” he said. “I saw one in southern Manitoba, swimming, and the head was about basketball size. They seldom come ashore; that is why we don’t know about them.”
In Utah, Warms is especially interested in Bear Lake. Because it is a deep – 200-plus feet – body of water, its probabilities of harboring a Loch Ness caliber monster seems quite probable to Warms.
He also talked of a recent creature sighting in Lake Powell, where a woman described what Warms believes is another giant beaver.
“Lake Powell was an isolated sighting,” he said. “I am sure many more people must have seen them around but perhaps didn’t want to be laughed at.”
In southern Manitoba, he has discovered large tunnels – up to 3 feet in diameter – along shorelines that he believes are made by such creatures to live in. Many are reinforced by clay linings and as soon as they are disturbed by man, the creature fills them in.
There are even tales of what he calls “underwater moose” and giant frogs, among other water creatures.
He’s also amazed at how many tales of large snakes – 25-35 feet long – considered an impossibility by experts, because of the cold Canadian climate – that he hears about in his home area, too.
There are even reports of large flying creatures in Canada, with 3-foot wingspans and that only come out at night.
So far, he said, no scientific experts will take any interest in these purported creatures.
He recently built a large aluminum sled that a snowmobile can pull so he and friends can better penetrate the Canadian wilderness this winter to look for more creature evidence.
Drilling holes in the ground next to lakes and searching with underwater or infrared cameras will be his next steps to find evidence of strange water creatures.
“It could rewrite books,” he said of what he could find.
He also said he once met a Manitoba Interlake hunter (now deceased) who thought he shot a wounded moose in some willows in 1941.
“It took me thirty-five years to figure out what I had shot,” the old man told Warms. He had supposedly shot and killed a bigfoot (but that term was unknown until 1958).
Warms has found that Native Americans who live near lakes and rivers are the best sources for encounters with such creatures.
Once they know he believes in such creatures, too, he finds they are very talkative about them.
Native Americans at Idaho’s Fort Hall had told him about some Sasquatch sightings there, on his way to Utah.
He planned to stop at every reservation he could, as he proceeded south to Flagstaff, on what he described as a working vacation. A part-time job in Canada helps fund his travel expenses.
In Flagstaff, he was planning to meet his wife, who will fly there, since she doesn’t favor long drives.
What does his wife think of his creature quests?

The Haiti Response: Are Humans Becoming More Compassionate?

The world’s incredible outpouring of help to the people of Haiti raises the question: are we evolving to become more compassionate and collaborative in our quest to survive and thrive?
A research team at the University of California, Berkeley, says “yes.” They are challenging long-held beliefs that human beings are wired to be selfish. In a wide range of studies, social scientists are amassing a growing body of evidence to show we are evolving to become more compassionate and collaborative in our quest to survive and thrive.The researchers have found compelling evidence that people who are more empathetic possess a particular variation of the oxytocin receptor gene.
The findings support other research showing that oxytocin plays a major role in countering stress. Previous studies have also linked this genetic variation with autism and parenting styles, says study coauthor Sarina Rodrigues, assistant professor of psychology at Oregon State University.
All humans inherit a variation of this gene or “allele” from each parent. The study looked at the three combinations of gene variations of the oxytocin receptor. The most empathetic — able to get an accurate read on others’ emotions — had two copies of the “G allele.” In contrast, members of the AA and AG allele groups were found to be less capable of putting themselves in the shoes of others and more likely to get stressed out in difficult situations.
“This is the first study to suggest that a tendency to be more empathetic and stress reactive than others may be influenced by a single gene,” notes Rodrigues.
Informally known as the “cuddle” or “love” hormone, oxytocin is secreted into the bloodstream and the brain, where it promotes social interaction, bonding and romantic love, among other functions. It is also key to procreation, activating uterine contractions during childbirth and lactation for breastfeeding.
But while nature might have given some of us the DNA to be more empathetic, those who are not in the GG group should not despair, Rodrigues says. “There are plenty of people in the AA or AG gene pool who are empathetic, caring individuals,” adds Rodrigues, who is not a double G but counts herself as caring and empathetic.
In the study of some 200 young men and women of diverse ethnicities, participants, who provided DNA samples, filled out questionnaires that gauged their levels of empathy and their ability to read emotions displayed in eye expressions. Those with the GG variation were better at reading eye expressions than their AA and AG counterparts.
Participants were also were given stress reactivity tests, including one that measured their heart rate as they awaited loud blasts of noise. While female participants were found overall to be more sensitive to stress, both men and women in the GG group maintained a lower heart rate in the face of the sound blasts..
“Not everyone is going to be a touchy-feely person,” Rodrigues adds. “We should reach out to people who aren’t because research shows it’s better for everyone to be socially connected.”
The study was funded by the Metanexus Institute and UC Berkeley’s Greater Good Science Center.

In the recent past my fiance D.D. passed away unexpectly in the house where I live…………..I was talking to my next door neighbor & she had informed that 5 people had already died in this house over the past 15 years , quite a suprise t…………….There has always been paranormal activity in & around this house but since D.D. passed away its been going off the charts…………….Now the place isn’t haunted its more of a portal, a gateway………….like a subway station & a photography studio where they stop to get their pictures taken………….no bullshit……………
