Greg Dyke said he wanted to change BBC political coverage

The BBC is part of a “conspiracy” preventing the “radical changes” needed to UK democracy, the corporation’s former director general has said.

 

Greg Dyke told a Lib Dem conference meeting he wanted a commission to look into the “whole political system”.

 

But he said: “I fear it will never happen because I fear the political class will stop it.”

 

The BBC said its political coverage was taken extremely seriously and was highly regarded by the public.

 

Mr Dyke said major changes he had wanted to make to the BBC’s coverage of politics had been blocked.

 

He told the Liberal Vision fringe meeting about the expenses scandal and how it had changed voters’ attitudes: “The evidence that our democracy is failing is overwhelming and yet those with the biggest interest in sustaining the current system – the Westminster village, the media and particularly the political parties, including this one – are the groups most in denial about what is really happening to our democracy.”

Mr Dyke, who was forced to stand down as director general in 2004 after the Hutton report into the death of government scientist Dr David Kelly, said there had never been a greater separation between the “political class” and the public.

“I tried and failed to get the problem properly discussed when I was at the BBC and I was stopped, interestingly, by a combination of the politicos on the board of governors, one of whom was married to the man who claimed for cleaning his moat, the cabinet interestingly – the Labour cabinet – who decided to have a meeting, only about what we were trying to discuss, and the political journalists at the BBC.

 

“Why? Because, collectively, they are all part of the problem. They are part of one Westminster conspiracy. They don’t want anything to change. It’s not in their interests.”

 

He said the expenses scandal had been “British democracy’s Berlin Wall moment” but he feared the opportunity to change the system was fading away.

 

He called for an end to “pathetic jeering, shouting and childish behaviour” and the “pomp and ceremony” in Parliament.

An independent commission should look at ideas such as moving the seat of democracy out of Westminster, a fully elected upper chamber with no whipping system, proportional representation, cutting the number of MPs by half, and reforming their pay and expenses, he added.

 

“It’s time to be radical. Our current model was designed for the 18th Century. It doesn’t fit 21st Century Britain,” he told the meeting.

 

And he added: “We want more influence over our lives and we are not just prepared to hand it over to this strange bunch of people who stand for Parliament because they have been knocking on people’s doors for 10 years.”

 

Speaking afterwards, he referred to an internal review of the BBC’s political coverage carried out at the beginning of the decade, to which all political parties were asked to contribute.

 

He said “there was a lot of pressure from the government of the day not to change anything”, adding: “If you are in power what you want is you want to be covered and you don’t want anybody else to be covered and they were scared that we were going to stop covering them.”

 

He denied the BBC had caved in to pressure from the government but added: “A lot of the governors were what I call semi-politicians and they liked the present system and…. maybe they were right – it’s not the job of the BBC to change the political system and to start questioning the political system.

 

“I happen to not agree with that but, you know, we didn’t get anywhere.”

 

Asked what specific changes he would like to see in the BBC’s coverage, he said: “Most of the politicians didn’t want a different way of covering politics.

 

“They wanted their mugs on the telly basically and we might have moved away from that.”

 

He denied his comments were meant as a criticism of BBC journalists in particular, but added: “In the end political journalists live in the same narrow world as politicians do and they don’t see a need to change because they think it’s the world. They just don’t understand that out there it’s very different.”

 

In a statement, the BBC said Mr Dyke was “entitled to his views”.

 

It added: “Our news is highly regarded by the public. Anyone looking at the depth and range of our political coverage will know how seriously we take the reporting of politics and political institutions.”

PERSONAL NOTE : I keep being asked by many people to find unusual and strange info. about  Michael Jackson ( conspiracy theories, etc.) and of all I have seen( and I have seen MANY) this seems to be the most logically laid out and compelling one . Enjoy it…it will be my last post on the subject unless something truly incredible comes my way. People have asked my thoughts as to is Michael alive…I feel he is passed on. What exactly happened to cause his death I am still not sure of though.

In recent days, several new developments have come to light in favour of the theory that Michael Jackson has Staged his own death and pulled off the greatest Hoax of the Century. As we are already aware, the several inconsistencies surrounding his ‘death’ have opened our eyes to the fact that we are not being told the whole story.

 

We believe that if he really was dead then it would have simply been an open and shut case. For example: Michael Jackson was discovered to have passed away at home from Cardiac Arrest, 911 Emergency was called, he was picked up by paramedics and then sadly, pronounced dead. However, as we all know, it was not an open and shut case and there were far too many ’strange’ happenings and unexplained events that took place on the day he died.

 

We have been told that he was given a four hour medical, which he passed, in order to go ahead with the O2 Concerts in London. We have also heard that the night before his death he was full of energy, put on an amazing rehearsal performance (which just happened to be video taped…what a coincidence) and then just happened to die of a Heart Attack the next day.

 

We have heard the strange tales about his ‘doctor’ who allegedly injected the singer with Demerol a half hour before he collapsed, happened to ‘find him on his bed’, didn’t call 911 until a half hour after his death, refused to sign his death certificate and who disappeared moments after the ambulance took Jackson to the hospital.

 

We have seen the footage of Michael Jackson sitting up in the Helicopter ride to the Morgue, no doubt thanking everyone for putting on such a great ‘act’ and then saying ‘I’ll be off now’, as he was wheeled into the Morgue, then disguised himself and walked out the back door.

 

Now it seems, even more strange things are taking place, which place our Hoax theory as being very possible. Let us share a few points:

 

 

Michael Jackson and Deborah Rowe during their marriage in 1996.It has been announced by Deborah Rowe, the Ex-Wife of Michael Jackson, that the late star is not the biological father of their two children. Deborah ‘Debbie’ Rowe, the mother of Prince, 12, and Paris, 11, has spoken of her “sham marriage” to Jackson in her first public interview with British tabloid newspaper News of the World.

 

Rowe, who married Jackson at the Sheraton Hotel Sydney in November 1996, said she was artificially inseminated by an anonymous donor and likened herself to one of the thoroughbred mares she now keeps on her California ranch.

 

 ”I was just the vessel. It wasn’t Michael’s sperm,” Rowe told News of the World. “I got paid for it, and I’ve moved on. I know I will never see my children again.” Rowe revealed she and the Thriller singer never had sex and did not share a bed during their three year marriage, describing the union only as a friendship.

 

Rowe reportedly then gave away her parental rights to the children in exchange for a $US 8.4 Million payout over nine years. Rowe said their’s was a shotgun wedding.  ”He wanted to pretend that we were a family.” She was 37 and pregnant and he was 38.

 

With this admission by Debbie Rowe, it puts to rest all of the skeptics who are claiming that Michael Jackson ‘would never stage his own death because he wouldn’t want to leave his children’.

 

Why wouldn’t he when they aren’t even his?

 

Secondly, we have the bizarre behaviour of Michael Jackson’s father, Joe Jackson. It was quoted on E! Online that, ‘At this point, Joe Jackson knows more about his own record project than his son’s funeral plans’. Very disturbing.

Jackson answered Lemon’s questions with abrupt, detached answers, passed the mic to his spokesperson and attorney, and then promoted his record company.

 

Jackson’s answers were strange right off the bat: Lemon asks him how he’s doing, and Jackson responds, “great, I’m doing pretty good,” which seems like a peculiar thing to say after one has just lost one’s son. He then switches gears and says, “It has been really tough. Remember, we just lost the biggest star in the world.” Which also seems strange, as it seemed like a fairly detached way of phrasing things.

 

Don Lemon then asks how Janet Jackson and the rest of the family are coping with the news of Michael’s Death and Joe Jackson’s response is this,

 

“They’re all fine, but I want to make this statement…this is a real good statement here, Marshall and I own a Record Company called Ranch Records”, and shows great enthusiasm as he plugs the Record Label.

 

Either he is just a money-hungry heartless bastard or he is so composed and carefree because he knows that his son Michael is actually still Alive. Or perhaps it’s both!

 

Third, Reports that were made in April of this year stated that an Auction was planned to sell off several possesions belonging to Michael Jackson which were apart of the Neverland Ranch Estate.

 

Items such as amusements, a custom made horse-drawn carriage, antique automobile replicas, renowned international awards, arcade games, concert costumes, Disneyana, garden statuary, furniture, the actual (and quite) grandiose entry gates to Neverland and Jackson’s iconic white-jeweled glove.

 

A portion of the  procedes of this Auction were said to be going to MusiCares, a charity of  The Recording Academy, however the bulk of the funds was said to be going straight into the pocket of the King of Pop himself. This Auction was then cancelled by Jackson after the O2 Concerts in London sold out. Apparently Michael Jackson had found another way to generate some extra cash for his transition into a new Media Free Life.

 

With a life that claimed Depression, extensive use of Pain Killers, Debts estimated to be in the arena of US$400 million, constantly being hounded by fans and the media, and the pressure to deliver on 50 spectacular concerts at the age of 50, why wouldn’t you consider the possibility of faking your own death to enjoy a peaceful life on an island somewhere with nothing to worry about?

 

We’ve noted here that those of you who are non-believers are maintaining that Michael Jackson would never be able to pull this off, as he is too recognisable, or would never do it to his fans, but we want to say WAKE UP PEOPLE.

 

If ever there was anyone on the face of the planet who would have the means to pull off a Death Hoax with access to plenty of money hidden away offshore, transportation whenever and wherever he wanted to go, staff who would do anything for him, and the motive to want to leave his circus of a life…it’s definately Michael Jackson.

 

He may now be ‘dead’ to all of us, but he is absolutely physically alive…. somewhere.

Michael Jackson’s death left the internet awash with conspiracy theories and speculation while genuine questions about the cause remained.

Even before it became clear that the singer had died there were suggestions of fakery and intrigue surrounding reports of his collapse.

When news that Michael Jackson had been taken to hospital after going into cardiac arrest emerged, Perez Hilton, the Hollywood blogger, pronounced himself “dubious” saying that he had pulled a “similar stunt” when he was getting ready for a big appearance in 1995.

 The posting, which suggested that the star was “dragging his heels” over the 50 performance residency planned at the 02 arena, was taken down from the site.

But even after his death had been confirmed, postings from the public continued to insist that he might not have died.

Bizarre claims that other celebrities had also died began to circulate including rumours – quickly debunked – that Harrison Ford had gone missing from a yacht or that Matt Damon had died in a car or plane crash.

Early theories posted on internet forums included the suggestion that Michael Jackson had faked his death and pocketed money from his upcoming comeback performances to solve his financial difficulties.

A message on digitalspy read: “Millions in debt and realises that he can’t deliver on a 50 gig comeback tour, so he fakes his death, assumes a new identity (which he’s been trying to achieve for many years) and disappears?”

One posting on Twitter suggested that the original internet report that the star was dead had been wrong but that he had been “covertly” killed because a “media bandwagon” had already got out of control.

Another internet posting suggested that he had been killed by a new “experimental bio weapon”.

It is not the first time that the web has carried rumours and gossip about Michael Jackson’s death.

Claims that the singer’s decomposed body had been found at his Neverland ranch and that an impostor had taken his place circulated four years ago but originated from a spoof story on the satirical site The Onion.

Aside from the more outlandish theories about Michael Jackson’s death there was genuine debate about the cause.

Internet news reports questioned why his personal doctor had been with the singer at his home but had been unable to help him and why reports of the singer’s death took so long to confirm.

The main theory was that his collapse stemmed from an over reliance on prescription painkillers after sustaining a series of injuries in rehearsal.

Meanwhile Uri Geller, a friend of Michael Jackson, blamed stress.
