Haunted Brick Too Dangerous to Display

Haunted brick pulled from paranormal event

NEW SMYRNA BEACH — The famous Rosewell Haunted Brick has been pulled as an attraction at the Night of the Paranormal, scheduled for Oct. 24 at the Museum of Arts & Science in Daytona Beach.
“Some things are best left alone,” said event producer Charlie Carlson, of New Smyrna Beach.
The decision to pull the brick from the lobby exhibits was made jointly by the brick’s owner and event officials.
“Because of the high level of para-normal activity connected with the brick recently, we decided to exercise an abundance of caution,” Carlson said.
Prior to the decision, the brick was blamed for shutting down a Halloween event at The Athens Theatre in DeLand.
`
Artist Barry Anderson gets a little too close to the haunted brick. Then came word that one of the certified investigators with the famed
Spookhunters.com organization was bitten by a friend’s dog. He had touched the brick a week earlier at a paranormal event hosted by the Lake Mary Historical Society. One week later, at the same hour, he was bitten on the hand that touched the brick.
Also within the last few weeks,a fellow Spookhunter sustained a cut to the chin in a bizarre accident involving a fake machete. Spookhunters founder Owen Sliter, who kissed the brick last year, has been plagued with boils since then, and has had to grow a semi-beard under the chin.
Details can be heard on an upcoming Spookhunters radio show, which will air on Shadows Media Internet Radio early next year.
Spookhunter Owen Sliter now sports a semi-beard when appearing in his orange jumpsuit.
The facial hair covers skin eruptions occurring since Owen kissed the haunted brick.
In his words: “Never again!”

Galveston, TX, October 03, 2009 –(PR.com)– Spirits believed to roam Hotel Galvez are preparing to welcome guests who arrive for the Ghosts of the Galvez package.
Guests who elect the two-night package will join the concierge who will lead a tour using an electromagnetic field detector and infrared thermometer to conduct their own paranormal investigation for ghosts in the 98-year-old beachfront hotel. As a souvenir, the package includes a copy of Ghosts Along the Texas Coast by Docia Schultz Williams. Guests will also receive a 10 percent discount on a special fall themed treatment of their choice at The Spa at the Hotel Galvez to relax after their frightful tour plus a 25 percent discount at Bernardo’s Restaurant.
“Over the years, guests have reported seeing or feeling a presence in some parts of the hotel primarily on the fifth floor,” says Hotel Galvez Concierge Jackie Hasan who leads the ghost tours. “There is also a story a heartbroken bride-to-be still waiting in Room 501 for her lost love.”
She adds, “In 1900, Galveston was the site of the worst natural disaster in United States history to that point and an estimated 6,000 people lost their lives. Although the hotel opened in 1911, I think that sometimes these lost souls lose their way.”
Recently, the hotel was the site of an investigation by The Discovery Channel’s Ghost Lab program to air in the fall.
The Ghosts of Galvez package, a two-night package, is available Oct. 1 through Oct. 31 for $525 on Friday and Saturday and $325 Sunday through Thursday, based on double occupancy. ‘Most haunted’ castle turns back on paranormal
09/29/2009 · Leave a Comment
Glamis Castle bosses are to turn away ghost-hunters in a bid to rebuild the castle’s image. Glamis Castle, believed to be the most haunted in Scotland, is to turn away ghost-hunters in a bid to rebuild its “image”, it emerged on Monday. Marketing chiefs at the castle, which is the ancestral home of the Earls of Strathmore and the Queen Mother’s childhood home, intend to rebrand the building as a family-friendly visitor attraction and promote its royal credentials instead of emphasising its spookiness. The castle, near Forfar, Angus, is widely regarded among paranormal investigators as one of Britain’s most haunted buildings. Spectres are said to include the Grey Lady, who prowls the chapel, a tongueless female phantom, and the ghost of Earl Beardie, condemned to play cards with the Devil until Doomsday for breaking the sanctity of the Sabbath. Previously the castle has played on its supernatural reputation, hosting ITV’s All Fright on the Night, a ghost-hunt presented by Uri Geller, the Israeli-born spoon-bender and paranormal showman. But now castle bosses say they want “nothing to do” with the castle’s paranormal reputation. David Adams, the castle’s general manager, said: “We don’t encourage ghost-hunters, we don’t encourage ghost-hunting TV programmes and we certainly don’t encourage people who want to come in and do overnight stays to try to locate ghosts. “We don’t want anything to do with that. If you happen to believe that stuff, that’s fine, but we don’t. There are various myths and legends surrounding the castle but they are just that. There is absolutely no evidence whatsoever that there are any supernatural beings in the castle.” Mark Turner of Ghost Finders Scotland, a paranormal research group, said he was astonished by the castle’s new stance. He added: “Glamis’ reputation as the most haunted castle in Scotland is its unique selling point. Publicly announcing there are no ghosts at Glamis is like people in the Highlands saying there’s no monster in Loch Ness.”

Ghost hunt on Gothic rooftop turns tragic
09/12/2009 · Leave a Comment

Certainly, there are rumours at 1 Spadina Cres., beneath the turrets and gargoyles and vine-covered brick, of whispers in darkened rooms. And there was that unsolved murder back in 2001, when a lecturer was knifed repeatedly in the chest.
But if they were looking for ghosts in University of Toronto buildings, they were in the wrong place. Because 1 Spadina Cres., a Gothic building so beautiful that one of the city’s main arteries parts around it like water, doesn’t really have any good ghost stories.
And yet, someone died trying to find some.
Just before 2 a.m. yesterday, a drunken ghost-hunting trip across the building’s roof went from an eerie adrenaline rush to a painfully real-life tragedy.
A 29-year-old woman, following her 34-year-old male partner from one rooftop to another, fell three storeys.
She died later at St. Michael’s Hospital, police said.
Friends identified the woman as Leah Kubik, who was originally from Indiana but moved to Toronto several years ago. Neither she nor her companion was a U of T student.
“For Toronto, this is the first real incident of someone tragically dying or being seriously injured due to this sort of activity, but this has gone on in the United States,” said Sue Darroch, who is a fixture in the city’s paranormal investigation and research community.
Dying on a quest for ghosts is rare. In 2007, a scare-seeking ghost hunt in Worthington, Ohio, ended with an eccentric recluse shooting a cheerleader, paralyzing her left arm and leg.
And in 2003, a black-clad ghost seeker in New York state was run down by a drunk driver while walking on a country road.
This type of ghost hunting, including the reckless kind that resulted in the woman’s death yesterday, is not something of which organized ghost seekers approve.
“We usually refer to them as `thrill-seeking.’ People who have maybe watched television or got caught up in movies or fictional books or whatever,” Darroch said.
“And when they think of ghosts they think of a spooky-looking building, and they’re going to break in and they’re going to look for ghosts.”
The building at 1 Spadina Cres., though not especially haunted according to the city’s experienced ghost hunters, does have its share of history.
It was bought by the university in 1972, but was built in 1874 to house the Presbyterian Knox College. During World War I, it was turned into a military hospital, where a 21-year-old Amelia Earhart cared for wounded veterans with influenza.
If the couple was looking for ghosts, they probably should have gone to University College, where a stonemason from 150 years ago purportedly regales passersby with gruesome stories of a love triangle gone violent, before dissipating. Or Massey College, which Robertson Davies said he wanted to haunt.
Richard Fiennes-Clinton, who leads ghost tours of the university’s campus, said: “This particular college itself doesn’t even really have any kind of substantial ghost stories to it.
“There’s certainly a lot of other buildings around the university that do have stories. I think with that one … it is a very Gothic-looking building. It’s a creepy-looking building.”

VIDEO: Haunted and Possessed Dolls
08/20/2009 · 4 Comments
I must admit I have always been a bit intrigued by the thought of haunted and possessed dolls or mannequins. It seems like a perfectly logical occurrence given that the spirit of a child would be attached and comfortable with their favorite doll and the spirit of an older soul would be attracted since it is the closest form they can find to a human body.
Whenever I go to Garage or Estates sales or to Thrift or Antique shops if I see an old doll I will usually stand by it for a while and concentrate the thought…if you wish to be seen move for me. To date I have only found a few that have moved and the cases were not significant enough for me to rule out normal causes.
I have posted below a few videos that have been posted by people who claim to own or have encountered dolls which defy the norm and also an account of the famous “Robert the Doll”. Enjoy.
P.S.: An interesting sidenote…this is my 666th post.
Best wishes,

How to tell if Your House is Haunted + How to Capture the Voices of the Dead (EVP)

One of the questions most frequently asked of me is how to tell if a place is haunted. Many people live in a so-called “haunted” house and never realize it. After all, not too many folks have full-bodied spectres flying about. In a typical haunting, the occupants of a home might experience any of the following paranormal events in the course of their day. These events are normally minor, however, and therefore will often go unnoticed.
Creaking boards that sound like someone is walking across the floor.
Sounds of boxes being dropped or moved in the basement or attic.
Mist-like apparitions.
Missing items that are suddenly returned.
Strange scents/odors, especially tobacco odor or a strange perfume.
Electrical appliances turning on and off, such as lamps, lights or fans.
Low, muffled voices coming from empty rooms.
The feeling of being watched by someone.
Brief peripheral glimpse of white shapes moving about.
Dishes/glasses sliding across counters; levitating; cups swinging on hooks.
Cabinet doors opening and closing on their own.
Objects placed in one location and show up in another area of the home.
Invisible things jumping onto the bed or couch sometimes leaving impressions on the sheets or couch.
Human-like apparitions that appear and disappear in the blink of an eye.
Strange scratches on the skin that appear without apparent reason.
A cold spot that “floats” around without apparent reason.
Physical sensation of being touched by an invisible hand.
New batteries suddenly losing their charge after being installed.
Strange white streaks captured on film.
Strange white balls of light that appear and disappear during an electrical storm.
A child crying or a child’s voice calling out, usually when no children are present.
Anything strange and unusual that is happening and cannot be explained.
A dog or cat reacting strangely to an unseen presence.
Each of the above occurrences can also have a perfectly normal, everyday explanation, and that’s why I encourage everyone who feels they may be experiencing a haunting to request an investigation from a reputable, educated organization dedicated to accurately investigating and documenting the paranormal. While you await the investigation, feel free to take photos and make both audio and video recordings. These can provide invaluable evidence for the incoming research team. Also, keep a diary of events, noting occurrence, date, time, your activity, etc., to help pinpoint patterns, which may also help provide an explanation for the activity.
Whatever you do, the most important thing to remember is not to panic. Should your home turn out to be haunted, bear in mind that the great majority of paranormal events are benign in nature, so there’s no need to live in fear.
Many of you may remember a movie with Michael Keaton from a few years back called White Noise. It was touted as being the movie that told the truth about Electronic Voice Phenomena, or EVP. Yeah, it’s not like that.
EVP is the capture of spirit sounds or voices onto magnetic or digital media, such as tape or a CD. Any kind of tape recorder will work for EVP capture, however, certain things need to be remembered. Cheaper recorders and those with built-in microphones will possibly pick up internal noises from the recorder itself, and these sounds are frequently mistaken for spirit voices.
When EVP capture is attempted outdoors, keep wind conditions in mind. Wind and rain can simulate voices, as can other outdoor sounds such as traffic and bird calls. Also, researchers’ conversation should be kept to a minimum, but if required, then all researchers should speak in strong, clear voices so as not to be confused later with spirit voices. Indoor noises to be aware of include the sounds of heels on flooring and other types of movement.
There are two basic methods to capture EVP. The first method involves turning the recording device on and then asking a series of questions. Each question should be asked in a clear voice, with a pause between each question. Many researchers feel this method gives some direction to the spirits and therefore produces better results. It is advisable for one researcher to ask the questions while another keeps a log, noting the weather conditions, any noises and the time each occurred.
The second involves turning the recording device on, placing it in a secure location, and then leaving that location so that no researchers’ voices will be captured. That method was being employed when this EVP was captured by an American Paranormal Society researcher during a Nashville historic home investigation in 2005. You can hear the researchers talking as they exit the room, and then you hear the whispered, “It’s cold.” While not audible to the APS investigators at the time of capture, it is clearly heard in the recording.
Whichever capture method is followed, once recording has ceased, the tape should be listened to by several researchers to determine if spirit voices have been recorded. Bear in mind that it is unlikely that anything more than a single word or phrase will be captured, and be patient. You’ll listen to hours of audio recordings before you find anything at all. Plus, when asking another researcher to verify your find, simply request they listen to the recording, rather than asking, “Did you just hear a voice say … ?” That’s more likely to assure their non-biased opinion. Also, try to use headphones when listening to audio files. It helps drown out current background noise and makes any possible EVP easier to detect.
Finally, when dealing with EVP, don’t worry about ghouls and demons coming after you. Personally, I’ve yet to receive a verifiable account of something such as that happening. However, should you like assistance with something you’re dealing with, don’t hesitate to contact a reputable organization, such as the American Paranormal Society.

Death In A Spooky Apartment
06/15/2009 · Leave a Comment
by Ryan Deter
A teenager, convinced her apartment was haunted by a previous tenant, hanged herself during a vivid nightmare.
A teenager may have hanged herself while sleepwalking after becoming spooked by stories of a recent suicide in her flat, an inquest heard.
Carissa Glenn, 18, told her family she was having repeated nightmares about a woman who had apparently hanged herself in the rented apartment.
Miss Glen, who had a history of sleepwalking episodes in which she acted out her dreams, was found dead after hanging herself in her bathroom in the middle of the night.
A coroner returned an open verdict because it was unclear whether she had deliberately hanged herself or did so accidentally in her sleep.
Yesterday, her mother Lusia Glenn, 59, said: “We think she was in a semi-conscious, dream-like state when it happened. Carissa had heard rumours of a woman who hanged herself in the flat and it really got to her. She started saying she could feel her presence or sense her.”
The teacher added: “She would never do anything like this on purpose. She must have sleepwalked and acted out her dream – she used to all the time. She began having dreams about this woman. She told me she was so spooked by it that she hated going back to her flat at night.”
Miss Glenn moved from her home in Leeds to St Ives, Cornwall, after finishing her A-levels to be with friends she had met on family holidays.
She moved into the flat but soon after was told a previous female tenant had hanged herself there – a claim police later found to be untrue.
The week before she died in April, she rang her family three times complaining of a presence in her flat, where she is thought to have lived alone.
Her family had pleaded with her to return home, and said they would pay any outstanding rent on the property.
Her sister Lara said: “She was always spooked by the supernatural. She believed there was a presence in the flat and would mention it two or three times a week. She was always talking about her dreams, they were vivid. She must have been asleep or half-conscious when she died.”
An inquest in Truro heard she was a happy young woman who was popular with staff at the Sloop Inn where she worked as a barmaid.
The day before she died she worked a shift, had several drinks with friends and left in the early hours of the morning. When she failed to turn up at the pub the next day, workmates broke into her flat and found her body.
A post-mortem examination showed the talented musician, who wanted to become a police officer, had twice the drink-drive limit of alcohol in her blood.
Deputy assistant coroner Dr Peter Blackwell-Smythe said: “There was concern about a local rumour that someone had hanged themselves in the flat where she was living. And then there was the matter of her vivid nightmares, which were a disturbance for her.
“It appears she was a happy young woman who was vivacious. I appreciate concerns about her sleepwalking and her nightmares.
“It would be reasonable to leave the verdict open, although I believe the evidence strongly suggests she did take her own life.”
The court also heard that she had been upset by the death of a friend and learning that her ex-boyfriend was to marry.
A family statement read: ‘She was a strikingly beautiful girl, intelligent and vivacious with everything to live for.
“Many who love her and feel very close to her are still shocked and mystified by her sudden death. None who knew her will ever forget her.”
