The Mystery : Ghost hunters find skeletal remains in the basement of an old mansion.

11/15/2009 · 1 Comment

Wellsburg, West Virginia – The sprawling Aspen Manor mansion was built in 1895 by the Vandergrift family as a boys getaway that hosted gambling and cockfights.

Later, the Catholic community took over and turned it into an assisted living home where nuns and priests once lived. Most recently, it’s been converted to a bed and breakfast. But now, the historic Brooke County mansion is at the center of a police and paranormal investigation after skeletal remains were found hidden in a wall. The discovery was made Friday night when the Brooke County Paranormal Society visited the mansion to conduct what they call a paranormal investigation, something they do frequently at different locations. While there, some members of the group said they sensed someone was buried in a basement wall and said they followed the voice to the area.  “A couple of the psychics that were part of that group got physically sick when they went down there and they couldn’t figure out why,” said Gene Valentine, who owns the building. The paranormal group came to the 76,000-square-foot mansion in search of spirits, but had no idea what they would find skeletal remains. “It wasn’t what we actually went in looking for,” said Kathy Larntz, a member of the group.  Larntz said they found a bone on the floor, so she picked it up thinking it was probably an animal bone. She kept digging, and as she did, she found more and more bones.  Sheriff Richard Ferguson said the bones had “been chopped up into pieces” and had saw marks on them.  The remains were removed from the wall and are being sent to the state medical examiner, who will determine if they are human or animal.  “They found some questionable bones and I still cannot confirm or deny that they’re human,” Sheriff Richard Ferguson said. “They appear to be very old, but still intact, and we have no time frame. We’re actually looking back into the history of this area.” The bones had been cut up into pieces. In the meantime, in the former nuns quarters, Larntz said she, her husband and another investigator made another paranormal finding. She said the trio was using electronic voice phenomenon equipment and heard clicking sounds. “Nuns would use these clickers when kids would get like really loud and wouldn’t settle down, they’d start clicking,” she said.  She said with such a long history behind the manor, there are many possibilities of who or what the bones belong to. “It’s exciting,” she said. “This is a find for our group that’s really major.”  Valentine is restricting access to the mansion until the sheriff’s department gets more answers, but members of the group said they hope to go back inside with other paranormal investigators to see what else they can discover.  Valentine said he isn’t surprised by the findings.  “I’ve had a few psychic friends walk through here and they’ve had really bad reactions in the house,” Valentine said.  Valentine said he is in the process of remodeling, but said if officials determine the bones are human, he will let them do whatever is necessary to investigate and find out what else might be hidden on the property.

MINNEAPOLIS – A South Saint Paul family believes the world’s paranormal community helped heal their little girl through the power of prayer.

While most 8-year-olds are out enjoying their summer vacations, Gabby Mathis is stuck in the house.

Last Sunday, Mathis was riding her bike down the alley to her grandfather’s house when she was hit by a car.

By the time Mathis got to the hospital, she was bleeding in her brain and doctor’s didn’t know if she would ever wake up.

That’s when Dave Schrader, who hosts a local radio show about the paranormal, heard about the accident and asked his listeners to pray for Mathis both on the air and on his Myspace page.

By Tuesday, Mathis was awake and acting like nothing was wrong, much to her doctors’ surprise. As a paranormal investigator, Mathis’ mom has seen her share of strange sights, but she says this one tops them all.

Mathis will have to undergo therapy for some short term memory loss, but other than that, doctors say she should make a full recovery.

Why are supernatural novels experiencing a surge in popularity? Part 1-3

06/10/2009 · Leave a Comment

By : Toni Macdonald-  Manchester Books Examiner

www.examiner.com/x-13008-Manchester-Books-Examiner~y2009m6d5-Why-are-supernatural-novels-experiencing-a-surge-in-popularity-Part-I

Supernatural novels are currently experiencing an increase in popularity. This subject matter has been popular as long as people have been capable of intellectual thought. However, supernatural novels have been selling a lot more than usual. There are multiple reasons for this phenomenon, including one major, possibly the biggest, reason for this popularity surge.

Supernatural novels offer a form of escapism.

The supernatural is a form of fantasy. Fantasy novels allow readers to engage in a fantasy. They allow them to escape the realm of the everyday, and immerse themselves in something completely different.

These types of novels become more popular during times of stress and hardship. The current state of our economy is an example of one of these times. Readers look to entertainment as a means of escape. When they’re being entertained, they want to be able to either forget about their problems or look upon their problems as entertainment. Supernatural novels offer the former.

There is a reason that people choose supernatural novels as a means of escape. There is a reason that they choose to read that particular subject matter, and a reason why it offers such an excellent distraction.

The subject matter has a draw to it.

Supernatural literally means: “more than natural.” People tend to be drawn to anything that is outside of the norm. The supernatural draws attention because it is outside the realm of everyday experience.

The supernatural is also a little scary. It is very creepy to think that creatures, such as the kind that are in supernatural novels, could be living among us. Since many people like to be scared from time to time, these kinds of novels are always popular. However, at times when the “real world” is not looking so appealing, the supernatural novel has a special appeal to it. When the world is looking scary, people are especially drawn to scary novels. The subject matter is appealing because it is worse than what is happening outside the realm of the novel. When a person looks up from a particularly scary or creepy novel, such as a supernatural novel, the outside world, no matter how bad it is, is comforting.

Aside from offering a means of escape and having a draw to them, supernatural novels have another factor which makes them very popular. They have a further factor which ties into the first two factors to increase sales.

Supernatural novels have universal appeal.

People across the world are drawn to the supernatural for reasons previously mentioned in part II. This particular subject matter does not simply hold a cultural appeal, it holds a human appeal.

The human race has been interested in anything abnormal for as long as the human race itself has existed. Every culture and society holds, or has held, their own legends concerning the supernatural. Supernatural novels are not only appealing to the American culture, but to every culture. Even people who come from other cultures can understand and appreciate an interest in the supernatural.

This explains why this subject matter holds such wide appeal. Everyone, regardless of race, culture, religion, native language, etc., can appreciate a good story about the supernatural.

PERSONAL NOTE : I have also noticed this attraction and appeal happening very strongly in true paranormal books and stories over the past year or so .

Best wishes,

Possibly the Best CCTV Paranormal Evidence I have seen to Date

06/08/2009 · 4 Comments

PERSONAL NOTE : Below are 2 fascinating  stories and videos from WLTX TV in Columbia, South Carolina. The first is a few years old and shows an anomaly caught by digital camera at a state fair that many feel to be a classic “Angel” form .  The second story and video link may be the best evidence of catching a ghost or unknown form on CCTV that I have seen to date . Not that the quality is so good, but the credibility is. First of all it is in a city government building…second, the room has been checked to see if it might be a trick of light or shadow… and third  the camera lens have been checked for possible bugs, water condensation, etc. and then sealed …and the form KEEPS returning. Very strange indeed. Video of the City Hall apparition at : http://www.wltx.com/news/story.aspx?storyid=74656

“Ghost” Seen Lurking Inside Upstate City Hall

Source : : Tony Santaella , http://www.wltx.com/news/story.aspx?storyid=74656&catid=2

Anderson, SC (WYFF) – City Hall in Anderson is abuzz about something eerie. Employees at a business center say they’ve seen a ghost–and they can prove it.  ”Like I said, we really have no idea, what it could be,” says Rob Colbert, a security guard at the building.  It’s a white blur that moves across a surveillance image of a room at the building. It will pause, then move again, then speed up from time to time. Immediately they tried to come up with explanations of what it might be. They tried closing the blinds thinking that it might be a reflection from outside. But instead of disappearing, it showed up again.  In fact, with the blinds closed, it looks even clearer than before.  Another explanation they considered was a bug on the lens of the surveillance camera, but even after they cleaned and sealed the camera cover, it came back. Even if it is an insect, it seems to only come around in that particular office.  ”I’ve checked the tax office, the business license, community development, even the basement,” says Mark Cunningham, the building’s information technology director.  City employees say it doesn’t cause any trouble.  ”If it is a ghost maybe it’s Casper the friendly ghost,” says  Frances Parham, a city employee. They’ve even given it a name–Claie. Clair is short for ‘Clairvoyant.’

The Worlds Most Haunted House

03/20/2009 · Leave a Comment

Mar 19 2009 by Kathryn Carr,osadvertiser.co.uk

HE may have carried out paranormal investigations across the globe, but spirit medium Derek Acorah says the world’s most haunted house is right here in Ormskirk.

The famous psychic, who is currently on tour around the UK, said the property, which is near Ormskirk Golf Club, has more “spiritual activity” than anywhere else he has visited.

Derek, who lives in Scarisbrick, shot to fame on Living TV’s Most Haunted, before getting his own series, which has seen him exploring haunted buildings all over the world.

But none of them have been as spooky as the Ormskirk house.

He said: “It is the most spiritually active place I have been to, and I have done thousands of investigations over the years.

“And it’s not just residual energy – it’s people from the spirit world coming back; people who have owned the home over time, and who have been so happy there that they keep coming back.”

But according to Derek, there is a sinister side to the home.

He said: “There was a tunnel going from that property into another property, and some despicable things took place in that tunnel.

“The place is alight with spirit people. It was mid-afternoon when I visited it and the sun was shining. I saw two spirit people – one was walking across the yard. I shouted and it took no notice of me, just carried on walking and then disappeared. Then I saw a young lady in period dress. Normally you can be at a location for hours before anything happens, but this was all in the first five minutes! Every spirit person I connected with said ‘Tell them we are not here to cause any trouble, we loved this place. We just keep coming back to see what’s happening here.’”

Derek, who has written several books on the paranormal world, says he first realised his psychic talent aged six. He was once called in to the Scarisbrick Arms pub on Black-a-moor Lane to deal with some rather “irritated” spirits.

He said: “I was confronted by a spirit man, and there was a woman there, too. I think she was part of a family that had lived on Black-a-moor Lane – she was a very friendly person.

“At times they were getting irritated when rowdy people were coming into the pub at the weekend! They didn’t mind the people in the week because they were nice people. They were causing all kinds of mischief in the place – beer kegs in the cellar were going ‘pop’ and all kinds!”

Derek Acorah is at the Floral Pavilion in New Brighton on May 12. Call 0151 666 0000 or visit www.floralpavilion.com

Dangers of the Paranormal

02/06/2009 · 9 Comments

Personal Note : Many people are now becoming interested in the paranormal and paranormal investigating . A LOT of them ( me included in my younger days) deal with and even entice dangerous beings without fully preparing and without proper knowledge. I hope the below cautions from the SOCALPRS help many of you to act more safely and be more prepared.

Best wishes,

Dr. Donald Ryles PhD

Source: hauntedsandiego.com

DANGERS AT THE LOCATION/ENVIRONMENT: This covers extremes of temperature, long hours without proper food and water, living on a fast food diet, too much coffee, and even falling asleep at the wheel during long drives home. Their advice is to dress appropriately, wear proper shoes (no flip-flops – an R.I.P. rule!), bring protein bars, and plenty of water. Always have a first aid kit handy. Be aware of the possibility of animal attacks and do not put yourself in danger. NEVER investigate abandoned buildings where floors could be unstable and substances such as asbestos could be a completely unknown hazard. Never scout or investigate alone. Always carry your license and health insurance card. Do not hang out in cemeteries at night – you may encounter local gang members and they can be a lot scarier than any ghost! And don’t drive when you need sleep. Get a hotel room and start out fresh a few hours later.

CLIENTS: SOCALPRS points out that clients can also be hazardous to your health and they add that many people claiming to be experiencing paranormal activity may be susceptible to mental illness, drug addiction, alcoholism, or other factors. They may have guns or other weapons. R.I.P. has encountered weapons and loose ammunition in private residences. Always film your activities at the client’s home and, before doing anything, ensure that they have completed and signed a Permission to Investigate/Liability Waiver form. Be aware that if you do not find anything to substantiate their claims, they could become angry or even violent. Paranormal investigators have been physically attacked on some investigations by their own clients. In some cases, the police could be called and, remember, it’s your word against the client’s, unless you have videotaped all activities. At R.I.P., we strive to have multiple screening conversations with clients but sometimes even that is not enough. More than once, one of our Lead Investigators has said during the pre-investigation get-together: “Remember, if I give the word, we all leave immediately!” We’re fortunate to have a Lead Investigator who is also a law enforcement official; he is equally empowered to order us to “Get out now!” and we will do so with no questions asked.

OTHER INVESTIGATORS: As the SOCALPRS website points out, people who are attracted to this field may have obsessions, fantasies, or delusions. Some, like the situation cited earlier, can become obsessed with an aspect of the paranormal. Others may have dabbled in the occult or Wicca without proper knowledge or training. Some “armchair” demonologists can actually stir up activity, instead of stopping it. We’ve all heard the saying, “He knows just enough to be dangerous.” And some, unfortunately, may have deliberately chosen to travel down the “left hand path” (no offense to southpaws, that’s merely the traditional term) – think you’ll be able to spot them and eliminate them? Think again. They’re often the most personable and charming. After all, if they presented a demonic appearance, most people would shy away from them. And most have neglected to tattoo “I think it would be way cool to summon a demon” across their foreheads in order to warn you about them.

EVPs: The SOCALPRS site advises that paranormal investigators tread carefully with EVPs. They claim that EVPs can open a path into the spirit world and you have to be extremely cautious about who you invite to walk through that door. According to SOCALPRS, playing back the recordings can set up a vibration that attracts even more spirits who could then form attachments. For that reason, they recommend waiting until you’re home before playing back your recordings. When leaving any location, each investigator should state that they do not give permission for any spirits to follow them home. It is also good to do this as a group and to “ground” in a group setting.

PROVOKING: SOCALPRS warns against the popular practice of “provoking” and I agree. I’ve always thought that spirits should be approached with respect. Most spirits are not negative. Any “positive” spirits that may be around are not going to respond to provoking; instead, they are simply going to remove themselves from your vicinity until you pack up and leave. They can always wait you out – guaranteed, you’ll get tired before they do. And why would you want to hear from a “negative” spirit?

DEMONIC OR INHUMAN HAUNTINGS: According to the SOCALPRS site, many investigators who find themselves victims of a spirit attachment begin by collecting impressive EVP evidence – the theory is that the spirits somehow “allow” themselves to be recorded. SOCALPRS says that this usually ends badly with a spirit or even demonic attachment (see my cautionary tale above). They recommend that, at the first sign of any problems, ask for help. Do NOT try to pretend that everything is normal and this isn’t really happening. Many experienced paranormal groups have contacts with mediums, exorcists, demonologists, clergy, and psychologists who can be of assistance. Of course, stay away from Ouija boards. And, if your team finds any reason to suspect that the activity you’ve encountered could be demonic or inhuman, leave immediately. As SOCALPRS says, “It’s never worth the evidence when it destroys everything that you consider valuable in your life.”
